Pocket Watch Railway Type Swiss 1920s Antique 15J Large Silver Nickel Case Fwo

Gentleman's very large and highly impressive original Antique Swiss high grade 15 jewel Railway type pocket watch with beautiful ivory porcelain dial in a very chunky 18 size, silver nickel, highly polished (mirror finish) Dennison 'Cuprel' hermetic case. C~1920's. Looks to have been much loved and very well taken care of - her condition certainly reflects this. Full working order and is an excellent timekeeper with plenty of room on the regulator (which is sat correctly in the central position) for any further fine tuning. Fully checked and serviced by my highly experienced watchmaker and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic - a timepiece to grace any collection! Dial;- Impressive and distinctive, high gloss, 'snowflake' white porcelain dial in very near mint condition - just a few tiny fine hairlines radiating out from centre to number eight and centre to 2 & 3 (so minute is not showing up in the photographs, but mentioning for accuracy). Big black Arabic numbers (note the lovely little arrow tip to number 4) with black minute markers, bolder triangular 5 minute markers and diamond shaped 15 minute markers to chapter ring. Large sub dial with black Arabic numbers and black seconds chapters. Finely cut original very bright blued steel spade and whip hands and original blued steel arrow tip seconds hand all in lovely straight order. Slightly domed crystal in clear and bright condition with very few overall extremely light surface scratches showing under eyeglass only. Case;- The highly polished (mirror finish) very chunky silver nickel large 18 size hermetic case (5.6cm diameter / 7.9cm from top of bow to base, 1.8cm depth) is heavy (has a pleasing solid feel in the hand and total watch weight is a hefty 134.3 grams), is robust and in wonderful condition (please excuse the reflections/dark shadows in the pictures, was extremely difficult to photograph) - absolutely no wear, just one tiny indentation to side of back cover (again so small is not showing up in the photographs) and a few very light little overall surface scratches (mainly to the back) commensurate with age and use in her 100+ years service. These robust silver nickel cases where favoured by the Railway men for their strength and durability. All covers (both inside and out) still retain their original, high gloss, mirror finish. The front bezel and back cover screw on and off correctly (hermetic), closing tightly (early form of waterproofing) and I have taken the liberty of oiling the threads for years of continued smooth operation. Carries the most wonderful 'fish scale' engine turning to the inside of the back cover (which is a bright and crisp as the day it was made) and is clearly stamped in Art Deco script within a diamond shaped cartouche; CUPREL REGD (registered name for silver nickel), DENNISON WATCH CASE Co. LTD MADE IN ENGLAND and is numbered; 4871. Movement;- The stem wound and set high grade 15 ruby jewelled Swiss lever movement is in good clean and bright order (tiny bit of overall patina to the top plates as to be expected) and as mentioned above has just been checked/serviced by my highly experienced watchmaker. Carries very attractive 'wavy' engine turning to the top plates - always a sign of quality. Has a solid bi-arm balance wheel with brass balance screws and two brass meantime screws (for precision timing), steel balance spring which is true, in the round and 'breathing' well, large ruby jewels in recessed chaton settings, ruby end stone, ruby pallet jewels, 'swirl' engine turning to the mainspring and ratchet barrel covers and steel case screws. Stamped clearly on the top plates in slightly arched script; SWISS MADE 15 JEWELS. Balance action is tremendous in all positions (could not be any better) and is keeping excellent time with a sure, strong positive action - runs like a train. Winds extremely smoothly and fully (do not be afraid to fully wind, over-winding is the greatest horological myth!) Hand set operates smoothly and correctly - the pull up/push down action is very firm and true. Lovely original large 'onion' crown and big original firm, un-worn bow. Appraisal;- A very handsome and highly impressive Gentleman's Swiss Railway type timepiece which as mentioned earlier was much loved and proudly cared for by the original owner - she will make a perfect gift and a heirloom to be enjoyed by your future generations!
