Antique Landscape Paintings of Walney Island 1840
Rare set of six early 19th century landscape watercolor miniatures depicting scenes around Walney Island off the west coast of England. Painted in neoclassical style which soon came to be unfashionable after 1850s.
Re-famed in later (turn of the century) ebonized frames with gilted inner edge.
Wonderfully executed miniatures painted on card, one painting with ink inscription "Walney Island 1840" Each painting is painted in lovely detail by the same hand, using the same technique, showing good depth and similar subject matter.
So nice to see such a wonderful set to survive almost two hundred years and not be split up. A truly unique collection.
Each minute is approx: 8cm by 5.5cm
Each frame is approx: 12cm by 9.5cm
Watercolours are in good condition with light colour fading and dust marks.
Frames are showing wear, tear, scratches and marks.
