Description
A rare pair of matching George III antique sterling silver and mother-of-pearl folding fruit knife and fork.
Featuring genuine mother-of-pearl scales, hand-engraved with elegant leaf and wheat motifs.
Sterling silver blade and tines, each bearing George III duty marks and lion passants only, which is not unusual for the period.
Brass liners to the spines with decorative filework.
Housed in their original case.

condition
The fruit knife has a hairline on one side of the mother-of-pearl handle, and the blade tip is slightly blunted at the very point. Otherwise, both pieces are in good condition, showing only minor age-related wear. The blade and fork open smoothly with a firm half-stop at 90° and a firm open position at 180°. The blade has a very slight, barely perceptible wobble and closes with a gentle snap, while the fork has no wobble and closes with a strong snap.
