Description
cottish Oil Painting Floral Still Life “Mary’s Garden” Dan Ferguson ROI Framed Under Glass Description A traditional Scottish oil painting still life titled “Mary’s Garden” by Dan Ferguson ROI (1910–1992). This richly coloured floral composition shows a gathered bouquet of mixed wildflowers and cottage-garden blooms arranged in a tankard/jug vase on a dark tabletop, set against a calm neutral background that intensifies the colour and gives strong wall presence. The work is oil on board, signed, and presented in an ornate gilt moulded frame, glazed (under glass) for protection. Main colours: purple/mauve, green, blue Accent colours: yellow, white, soft orange Medium Oil on board, glazed (under glass) Subject Scottish wildflower and garden bouquet, including: heather, thistle, foxglove, daisies/oxeye daisies, asters (Michaelmas daisies), chrysanthemums, bluebells, cornflower/knapweed-type blues, meadow fillers and foliage. Composition & Technique An exhibition-style still life designed to read across a room: a stable pyramidal bouquet with convincing depth and overlapping blooms, strong tonal staging against a dark tabletop, and a realistically painted reflective tankard/jug vessel with crisp highlight glints. The restrained background keeps attention on the bouquet and enhances colour clarity. Artist Dan Ferguson ROI (Scottish, 1910–1992). The reverse exhibition label records “Dan Ferguson, R.O.I.” with a Motherwell, Lanarkshire address, supporting the attribution. Signature Signed “Dan Ferguson” lower right.
