Description
A rare set of six hand-painted Indian terracotta figures, dating to the late 19th / early 20th century.
Each figure represents a traditional role or regional “type,” complete with vibrant painted costumes and turbans. These figures were originally produced in workshops in Lucknow and Calcutta for both local appreciation and for colonial visitors, who collected them as decorative souvenirs and teaching aids.
Crafted from terracotta clay and painted in bright polychrome pigments, they capture a colourful glimpse of daily life in India during the British Raj.
