Offered for sale are five issues of "The Play Pictorial" magazine.
The Play Pictorial was an English theatrical magazine that was published monthly in London between 1902 and 1939 by Greening & Co. The Play Pictorial provided pictorial records of West End theatrical productions.
First issue date: April 1902 - As the title suggests they are a superb photographic record of a bygone theatrical age. Each magazine features a single show then running in London's West End and is packed full of fabulous photo's of the performers in the popular productions of the day.
As well as lavish photographic coverage of a featured production, they contain an editorial, a cast list, synopsis, general theatrical comment and stylish period advertisements.
This collection of five are:-
Issue 170 "The Happy Day" March 1916
Issue 171 "Pell Mell" April 1916
Issue 172 "Daddy Long Legs" May 1916
Issue 173 "The Light Blues" June 1916
Issue 270 "The Street Singer" June 1924
Issue 270 has a full page photo of a certain Mr Ivor Novello with Miss Dorothy Batley representing the final scene of "The Rat" which was enjoying a successful run in 1924 at The Garrick Theatre.
