'Variations Ii' 1961 & 'Variations On A Theme' 1963 By Sir William Russell Flint (British, 1880-1969) Date of Publication March 1994 & November 1993 Printer Coriander Process Serigraph Limited Edition Originally painted in 1960’s were created with model Cecilia Green who is portrayed in several various poses and positions creating a collage of studies on the human form. The various poses in Variations Ii seem to also be arranged to tell a story as from top left the study is shrouded and shy but by the final (bottom right) is open and confident. Variations on a Theme are a collage of Cecilia Green as a gypsy. Interestingly, prints of this can be found in a mirror image with the picture reversed. From a technical stand these works done later in Sir William’s life also have better colour contrast which can only be aided by the publication methods advancement by the 90's. Recognized worldwide as a master of watercolour painting, Sir William's work enjoys the prominence of some of the finest and most experienced paintings of our time.
