Vintage Black Cultured Pearl Necklace 18ct White Gold Diamond Clasp – 1980s

A striking vintage black cultured pearl necklace, dating to the 1980s and finished with an elegant 18ct white gold and diamond clasp. The necklace comprises 28 impressive cultured pearls, individually hand-knotted and measuring approximately 13.5mm each. The pearls display a sophisticated steel-grey body colour, enlivened by beautiful natural-looking overtones of green, blue, rose and gold which shift subtly with the light. Their deep lustre gives the necklace wonderful presence, while the generous pearl size creates a bold yet very elegant look when worn. The strand is completed by a finely made 18ct white gold barrel clasp, decorated around the centre with a patterned band set with four small diamonds. The clasp fastens securely with a push-and-hook mechanism and is marked 18K 750 to the tongue. At 16 inches / 40.2cm, the necklace sits closely and elegantly around the neckline in a classic choker style. Weighing an impressive 90 grams, it has a wonderfully substantial feel. As is typical of large cultured black pearls, there are natural surface characteristics including some blemishing and pitting, together with areas of light nacre wear.
