This rather beautiful watercolour dates from the 1950s or 60s, but I can't be certain. The artist is I M Wilson, and I can find no reference to him or her, so the person may have been a talented amateur. There is an added extra, in that on the reverse there is a completely different picture. I think the artist painted on both sides of the paper, and then mounted the side he liked best! The actual picture is of a very nicely done rural scene with either a farmhouse, or just possibly a mill building of some kind - there are tall chimneys and outbuildings. It could be Kent or similar. There are wild flowers in the foreground - just an impression but again, very well painted. On the reverse is a sea scene, with a double masted sailing ship, sailing boats at anchor and what looks like a boatyard, with men at work. This too is lovely, so I don't know why the artist chose to mount the other side, but perhaps he just had to make a choice for exhibition purposes. Again, this looks as though it could be the south or south east of England somewhere, but it's not a landscape I'm familiar with.

This is a double sided picture - i.e. the artist painted on both sides of the paper, and then mounted the side he liked best - but the pictures, as you can see from the photograph, are very different in subject. Both, however, are beautiful, and in excellent condition. Unframed but well mounted. Two for the price of one
