Art & Stuff

I specialise in affordable original artworks - mainly traditional watercolours and oil paintings but I also have a range of contemporary artworks including limited edition lithographic prints. I also stock a limited selection of antiques and collectables, including treen, ceramics and glass. I have now opened a shop at 26 High St Wallingford (OX100BU) between Reading and Oxford, but I also trade online. My website, www.artandstuffgallery.com has a gallery section with several mini-galleries where my items are displayed, including more contemporary items not shown on LoveAntiques.

Description
An early 19th century etching of Portpatrick, Wigtownshire (now Dumfries and Galloway) in Scotland. Originally a fishing village, it dates back about 700 years. Named after St Patrick who is supposed to have landed here from Ireland with a single stride (21 miles!). It is now the starting point of the Southern Upland Way and has been the location for several films and TV series.
William Daniell RA (1769-1837) was an English landscape and marine painter and printmaker, notable for his work in aquatint. In 1813, he started work on his greatest achievement: a series of aquatints for "A Voyage Round Great Britain" which he published with his friend Ayton between 1814-25. There were 308 illustrations done for this work of which this is one. Daniell was elected a member of the Royal Academy in 1822.
