Description
Of local interest! An engraving of Basildon House (now known as Basildon Park) by William Poole (1798-1888). The house was built between 1777-83 for Sir Francis Sykes who had served with the East India Co. In 1838 it was purchased by Mr James Morrison to house his art collection. This engraving is dedicated to Sykes so predates 1838. The house became almost derelict but was rescued in the 1950s and now looks pretty much as it did originally.
