Antique Arts & Crafts Viking Ship Weathervane

Highly decorative Arts & Crafts period weathervane, handcrafted from sheet copper and brass, featuring a stylised Viking longship sailing across scrolling waves. This delightful scratch built piece displays the simple, honest craftsmanship and artistic character so closely associated with the Arts & Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The weathervane has been cut from copper sheet and carefully soldered to a brass support, creating an attractive silhouette with a sweeping sail, pennant and elegantly carved scrollwork waves. Over the years the copper has developed a rich, mellow surface with areas of natural oxidation and wear, giving the piece wonderful warmth and authenticity. Now mounted on a later metal display stand, it makes an eye catching decorative object, ideal for display in a country home, coastal interior, or as part of an antique maritime collection. Although no longer intended for outdoor use as a functioning weather vane, it serves beautifully as a sculptural display piece. The condition is good for its age, with expected signs of use, light bends, surface wear, soldered construction and an aged patina throughout, all adding to its handcrafted appeal. The stand is a later addition and allows the vane to be displayed securely. Ohh and slight tilt on in a when on the stand.
