Mounted on Cherry-Stained Display Base with Black Baize Underside | Classic English Angling Collectible
This handsome antique wood and brass fishing reel captures the artistry and precision of late Victorian tackle-making.
Dating from around 1890–1910, it is a fine example of the Nottingham-style reel, once favoured by English anglers for its balance, craftsmanship, and smooth performance.
Constructed from richly grained hardwood (likely mahogany or walnut) with brass fittings, the reel features the classic perforated side plates and twin turned wooden handles typical of the period.
It has been sympathetically mounted on a solid cherry wood display base, carefully stained and finished to complement the reel’s original tone and patina. The base’s underside is lined with black baize, protecting furniture surfaces and giving a refined, museum-quality presentation.
The mounting preserves the reel’s integrity — no permanent alterations.

condition
Very good antique condition with a beautiful aged patina. The reel shows light wear consistent with age but remains solid and well-preserved. The cherry-stained mount enhances its display while respecting the original craftsmanship.
