Description
This is an antique writing slope. An English, walnut and brass correspondence box, dating to the Regency period, circa 1820.
A charming slope, with fascinating concealed drawers and appealing finish, that displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order. Crafted from select walnut, offering fine grain interest and warm caramel hues. Casework skilfully accentuated with brass to the corners and as robust strapping.
Personalised brass plaque to the lid, with the engraved cursive monogram W. I. G. Opens to reveal a beautifully appointed interior, ideal for writing and correspondence. Lightly aged skiver with a tooled and embossed deep blue leather, arranged in two folding sections. Document storage compartments situated beneath each lift-up writing surface.
A delightful trio of hidden drawers reside behind the removable fascia panel. Rear edge hosts a pen tray, a lidded compartment and two inkwell-sized sections. Fascia dressed with a brass lock escutcheon — in working order, key present. Dressed to the base with a baize cushion for ideal surface protection.
This is a fine antique Regency period writing slope, combining elegant craftsmanship with hidden practicality. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques.
