This is an antique Woodblock picture. A Japanese, framed ukiyo-e colour print in the manner of Keisai Eisen, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Striking Edo period artwork, reproduced with delightful colour and detail. Presents a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Fine woodblock detail, printed on paper in appealing colour. Set within a tasteful later frame, with mounting wire to the reverse. Female courtesans with superb costume detail, reading scrolls. Background features an inset landscape view of a boat on water. After Keisai Eisen (1790- 1848), representing affluent Edo-period figures (1603 - 1868). From his series A Tokaido Board Game of Courtesans: Fifty-three Pairings in the Yoshiwara. Original woodblocks created in the 1820s, featuring the figures Michinoku and Michiuta.
