Description
An attractive George V solid sterling silver cigarette case, hallmarked Birmingham 1930, with an unusual gently concave form and elegant engine-turned decoration. Dating from the early Art Deco period, this stylish cigarette case features a distinctive geometric design, with finely engraved parallel lines across both sides and attractive chamfered corners. The case has a pleasing curved profile, designed to sit comfortably in a gentleman's pocket, and retains its original gilded interior, together with both black elastic cigarette retaining bands. The Birmingham hallmarks confirm its English origin and sterling silver standard, whilst the clean geometric lines and understated decoration reflect the fashionable Art Deco styling of the period. A charming example of interwar British silver craftsmanship and an attractive addition to any collection of antique silver or gentleman's smoking accessories.
