Description
Japanese antique Meiji / early 20th Century Fujii Damascene iron box by Fujii Miho, with a beautiful gold and silver inlaid landscape and Mt Fuji design on the lid. Other panels depict traditional buildings, fishing boats, foliage and a torii gate, while the inside is finely engraved on gold with land and seascapes. Fuji mark on the base. It comes in a wooden box.
This is a little gem.
Japanese Damascene, known as Kyo-zogan or Komai-zogan, is a traditional metalwork technique where pure gold and silver are meticulously inlaid into a textured, blackened steel or iron base. This box was crafted by the Fujii Damascene Company, founded by the renowned Meiji-era metalworker Yoshitoyo Fujii (1868-1942).
