Description
A fine mid 18th Century mahogany tripod supper table of the George II–III transitional period, dating to circa 1760, crafted in well-figured Cuban mahogany with a deep, mellow, naturally developed patina. The table retains its original 80 cm circular one-piece top — a desirable early feature — and is supported on an elegant wrythen-turned (angled reeded) column of excellent proportion, a detail associated with the refined late George II and early George III taste of the 1750s–1760s.
The down-swept legs with pad feet are beautifully shaped, well balanced, and entirely original, giving the table a strong yet graceful stance typical of quality mid-Georgian tripod tables. Beneath the top is a fully original birdcage mechanism, allowing the top to rotate and tilt, with the block, pillars, and period locking catch all remaining intact and undisturbed, and showing excellent consistency of surface and wear throughout.

declaration
Leeds Antiques Limited has clarified that the George II–III Period Mahogany Birdcage Tripod Supper / Wine Table, c.1760 (Georgian, 3rd Quarter 18th Century) (LA558624) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1760
condition
Structurally excellent with no loose joints. Entirely original throughout, with the exception of a discreet historic chip repair to the top of one leg.
The top shows age-related marks consistent with over two centuries of domestic use and has been lightly cleaned and waxed, preserving its original surface and well-developed patina.
As with all genuine 18th-century furniture, minor surface wear and signs of long service are entirely in keeping with age and add to the authenticity and character of the piece.
