Imposing Japanese Vintage Showa (1950s) Large Bronze Lion, Kiyoshi Nakagawa

Striking Japanese vintage Showa (1950s) large bronze lion by Kiyoshi Nakagawa (1897-1977), a Japan Art Academy award-winning sculptor. Beautifully sculpted and cast, the lion is depicted standing on a rock. Length 48cm x 28.5cm high x 10.5cm deep, weight 6.95kg. The box was broken in transit, but a photo of the (box) inscription is shown. Superb condition and patina. Kiyoshi Nakagawa was one of the most prominent sculptors of his time and exhibited in several Nitten and other prestigious shows where he won many prizes. His works are displayed in the permanent collection of Tokyo Modern Art Museum.
