Description
Large Decorative British Heraldic Equestrian Trade Sign, Double-Sided Hand-Painted Saddler’s Sign, J. Miles & Son, Dorchester
A large and highly decorative British hand-painted equestrian trade sign, dating to the late 20th century and produced in the traditional manner of English saddlery signage.
This impressive double-sided wooden sign was made for J. Miles & Son, Master Saddlers of Dorchester, Dorset, a historic firm established in 1622. The design features a bold heraldic composition inspired by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers of the City of London, linking the piece to centuries of British equestrian and leatherworking tradition.
An original hand-painted wooden trade sign of substantial size, combining traditional British signwriting with classic heraldic design. The central armorial decoration includes:
* Two rearing horses as supporters
* A shield with saddlery motifs
* A knight’s helmet with crowned horse crest
* Decorative mantling and motto scroll
The sign is painted in strong traditional colours including ochre yellow, black, and red, with bold serif lettering and confident brushwork typical of quality British shop signage.
Double-sided in construction and housed within its original painted wooden frame, it was designed for shopfront display and remains a highly decorative interior piece.

Nostra Fides In Deo Est — “Our Trust Is In God”
