Murano Sommerso Ovoid Art Glass Vase Graduated Amethyst & Uranium Casing

An elegant Mid-Century Murano art glass vase of elongated ovoid form, expertly executed using the renowned Sommerso technique. The vase features a delicately graduated amethyst-coloured inner core, seamlessly encased within a luminous uranium-tinted glass layer, and finished with a substantial outer casing of crystal-clear glass. The heavy casing creates exceptional optical depth and magnification, allowing the soft amethyst tones to appear suspended within the glass. The streamlined organic silhouette and thick sculptural walls exemplify the refined aesthetic associated with Murano glass production during the 1960s. When viewed under ultraviolet light, the uranium layer is expected to fluoresce a vivid green, a desirable feature amongst collectors of both Murano and uranium glass. Uranium glass was widely employed by several Murano studios during the post-war period in combination with the sommerso technique. Although unsigned, the form, construction and colour combination are consistent with work produced by Murano makers such as Seguso Vetri d'Arte, Mandruzzato, Galliano Ferro, and other Venetian glasshouses active during the mid-20th century.
