Description
Fine impressionist British work of art oil painting on canvas scenic landscape of Lake District Windermere View From Bowness by Alfred de Breanski Jr (1877-1957).
Wow and impress your guests & clients in your home or office with this English countryside masterpiece.
Title "Windermere from Bowness"
Subject landscape view of the known English scenic Lake distruct landscape honeypot view of Lake Windermere during the Autumn time during the morning.
Signed in the bottom corner A.Fontville on canvas front and also inscribed verso by the known artist Alfred Fontville de Breanski Junior (1877-1957).
An excellent impressive large display size with the frame, with hanging thread on the back ready for immediate home wall display. being 92cm wide and 71.5cm high & 9cm in depth. Set in the original grand gilt decorative heavy frame which enhances this artwork even further.
Your focus is drawn to the tall peaks & mountains in the background, which stand out & having a Chiaroscuro effect, which contrasts with the darker flank edges on both sides.
This conveys a sense of enormous volume, mood and atmosphere in this painting. Below showing the delightful lake Windermere, which has a small flock of 3 birds of prey flying low across the water, with thick tall green grass reeds popping up heading towards the right shore edges, with brown grass further back. In the distance a shepherd person is on the bank edge wearing a red hat looking out at the lake with his small flock of sheep close by. In the distance a masted sail boat is docked. To the left flank sloping hills with mix of green and brown vegetation with jagged rocks & boulders. You can feel the peace and tranquillity in this scene. Above with a mainly grey overcast sky with areas of bright light shining through. The different hues are so bright, vivid and vibrant and really stand out which you will adore.
In our opinion this is among his finest work.
Artist biography Alfred Fontville de Breanski Jr. (28 August 1877 – 17 April 1957) was a British painter. His paintings have sold at numerous high end fine art auctions worldwide with the current highest recorded sold price being $20,740 Us dollars which was for the painting view of lake Coniston and the old man which sold in New York.
He was born in London & was the son of Alfred de Breanski Senior and Annie Roberts, who were also both artist painters. He learnt his craft from his parents and at St. Martin’s School of Art, and met and became acquainted with Whistler during his time in France. He often worked in a similar style to his father, though they each have distinctive signatures. His paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Society of British Artists. He generally painted natural landscape and rustic scenes, showing the influence of Impressionism in his later life.
He also produced in 1915 a couple of posters for the Underground Electric Railways Company showing Twickenham by Tram and Kew Gardens by Tram. He died in Tonbridge, Kent, in 1957.

Windermere or Lake Windermere is a ribbon lake in Cumbria, England, and part of the Lake District. It is the largest lake in England by length, area, and volume, but considerably smaller than the largest Scottish lochs and Northern Irish loughs. The lake is about 11 miles (18 km) in length and 1 mile (1.6 km) at its widest, has a maximum depth of 64 metres (210 ft), and has an elevation of 39 metres (128 ft) above sea level. Its outflow is the River Leven, which drains into Morecambe Bay. The lake is in the administrative council area of Westmorland and Furness and the historic county of Westmorland, with the lake forming part of the boundary between the historic counties of Westmorland and Lancashire. It has been one of the country's most popular places for holidays and summer homes since the arrival of the Kendal and Windermere Railway's branch line in 1847. The Freshwater Biological Association was established on the shore of Windermere in 1929 and much of the early work on lake ecology, freshwater biology and limnology was conducted here.
