Description
This is Glasgow before it became a great industrial city famous for shipbuilding. The Clyde was de-silted in the 1770s, which enabled larger ships to sail further up the river laying the foundations for the industry of the 19th century. This is one of the engravings from John Cooke's "Modern Universal British Traveller" published in 1799.
