Peruvian Hand Carved Wood Box Silver Rim and Chancay Textile

Wonderful hand-carved box of Cumarú wood (also known as Brazilian Teak), carved from a single block of wood with no joints, no screws nor any assemblies. The lid has a fragment of traditional hand-woven Chancay textile with a geometric pattern in earth-tones protected by a piece of glass framed by a hand-hammered silver rim stamped '925'. The Chancay tribe is known to have been present in Peru between 1200-1450, and archaeological sites are known to be approximately 50 miles from present-day Lima. The Chancay are an early sect of the Inca Empire. The textiles can be found in numerous museums exhibiting Pre-Columbian Latin American art, and typically woven from cotton, Llama, Alpaca, and Vicuna wools. An original piece that bridges between far away past and the present. In used vintage condition, some dents to silver rim, light signs of age and wear, textile fragment and glass in good condition, please refer to detailed photos provided as they form part of item's description.
