A wonderfully impressive and very large late 20th-century original oil on canvas painting, depicting a busy European harbour and shipyard filled with commercial vessels, tugboats and towering dockside cranes. The artist has captured the industrial waterfront with considerable detail, setting the darker silhouettes of the ships and cranes against an atmospheric blue, peach and golden sky. The warm evening light is beautifully reflected across the water, giving the composition an unusually attractive balance between an industrial maritime subject and a softer, almost tranquil atmosphere. Several substantial ships dominate the harbour, surrounded by smaller working vessels and an impressive collection of cranes and dockside structures.
