Victorian Jewellery Box 1890s Brown Leather Large Foxed Mirror Octagonal Shape

Original Victorian Ladies mahogany brown leather jewellery box with fabulous internal 'foxed' mirror. (Please excuse all the white reflections and shadows in the pictures - was very difficult to photograph). Measures; 24cm / 9 1/2" length, 18.5cm / 7 1/4" width and 6cm / 2 1/4" height. Unusual eight sided (octagonal) shaped mahogany brown leather to the outside with attractive gold tooling around the lid circumference. Opens up correctly (the large brass hinge is true and firm with absolutely no play) and base and sides are lined with bottle green baize. Fabulous 'foxed' oval shaped, bevel edge mirror to the internal lid set within a leather framework which is again is surrounded by gold tooling. Two original secure brass catches to the front which again operate correctly, closing with a very reassuring click. The base is covered with the original brown textured material.
