Arthur John Elsley's style became incredibly popular throughout the middle of the nineteenth century because of the increase in demand for genre pantings featuring happy family life. This allowed Arthur John Elsley to provide a product for a much required demand, which proved to be so popular that many were reproduced as prints, and others were used in candlers, adverts, books and magazines, creating lots of examples of paintings, in the style of Arthur John Elsley.
