There is something timeless about an Antique pendant. As a simple piece of jewellery its main role is not just to show off its own beauty but also to accentuate the beauty of the wearer’s neck. From sumptuous gold or sparkling silver examples, antique and vintage pendants can offer some of the best variety as well as a sense of timelessness which modern pieces can’t compete with.
Before electric lighting during the Georgian and Victorian Eras, fine pendants were often cut and shaped with softer candlelight in mind or to accent the fashions of the day. Diamonds would be painstakingly added as well as other precious and semi-precious stones which each bore an unspoken meaning to those who knew. Indeed, at a time when emotional feelings were not as publicly expressed, the jewels on your pendant could suggest your availability or love for someone. Pieces were lovingly handmade and painstakingly constructed because the pendant was a far more socially important object than it is today. This overt status symbol continued through to the early 20th Century only to begin to decline as formal wear declined as well. Today these old pieces are a reminder of those days and beautiful examples of the craftsman's skill.
