19th Century Dutch Coastal Marine Oil Painting – Dutch Fishing Craft off a Windmill Coast by W. D. Ellis

An evocative 19th-century oil on canvas coastal marine scene by W. D. Ellis.  The painting captures traditional Dutch sailing vessels navigating churning coastal waters under a dramatic sky. On the right, local fishermen tend to a beached rowboat near a timber harbor mole and prominent windmills lined along the flat shore. The primary vessel proudly flies the Dutch tricolor ensign from its rigging as it cuts through the surf.  Executed with strong atmospheric light and rich detail throughout, 61cm x 92cm presented in a gilt moulded frame.
