19th Century Victorian Landscape Painting – Cattle Watering at Dusk (Circle of Henry John Boddington) c.1850)

An exquisite Victorian oil on canvas pastoral landscape painting titled Cattle Watering at Dusk, painted in the manner of Henry John Boddington (1811–1865).  The scene depicts cattle drinking at a calm river edge beneath leafy, mature trees, set against a soft, luminous twilight sky with a distant village church spire. Boddington, a key figure in the renowned Williams family of landscape artists, was celebrated for his atmospheric handling of light and serene English countryside views.  The painting is presented in its magnificent original 19th-century Victorian swept gilt frame, richly decorated with Rococo shell motifs, acanthus scrolls, and diaper-textured panels. The reverse retains an authentic 19th-century picture framer’s label from Lime Street, Liverpool. 30cm x 46cm within a a swept gilt composition frame. *PROVENANCE: From the estate of a Sussex gentleman.
