Clifford Bayly RWS (b.1927): Watercolour "Erwarton Manor"

An interesting watercolour of a fascinating building called Erwarton Hall, which amazingly still exists! It is in Erwarton village in Suffolk on the Shotley peninsula. The gatehouse dates to 1549, and apparently the building was once owned by Ann Boleyn's uncle. The gatehouse is quite astonishing. Clifford Bayly was a painter and illustrator who studied at St Martins and Camberwell Schools of Art and later taught at various art schools in Kent before retiring early to concentrate on painting. He became vice-President of RWS and President of Weald of Kent Art Group. He exhibited at Royal Society Summer Exhibitions and at Piccadilly and Mall Galleries and also Australia, where he also painted.
