Welcome to chapmanpugh modern antiques. We sell antiques from the 17th to the 21st centuries that look good in modern and contemporary settings. We are particularly interested in pieces created by influential designers, manufacturers and furniture makers. We choose examples which we think are stylish and are interested in their place in history. We especially like antiques with a story attached. We also love the fact that by buying an antique piece of furniture, pottery, glass etc to use again, we are preserving our natural resources and preventing the environmental burden of another item being produced. This is why antiques are so wonderfully sustainable. New items are added on a regular basis. We ship to Europe, the United States and the Rest of the World.

Important centres specifically included London and Glasgow. The table is attributed to H W Batley. Henry William Batley (1842-1932) was a British Aesthetic Movement, Arts and Crafts Artist and Designer who worked actively in London from 1870s to the first decade of the twentieth century and was highly acclaimed as an artistic etcher and designer of furniture, textiles, carpets, wallpapers and total schemes of decoration for many of England's leading manufacturers such as James Shoolbred & Co. His furnishings were exhibited at the Philadelphia Centennial in 1876, the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878 and the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. James Shoolbred & Co (aka Jas Shoolbred) was established in the 1820s at 155 Tottenham Court Road, London W1 and became famous for designing, manufacturing and selling high quality furniture. In the 1880s Shoolbred had opened London's first large department store at Tottenham House on Tottenham Court Road. In the mid 1880s, Shoolbred was granted a Royal Warrant, testament to the excellent design aesthetic and high quality of their furniture.
