Mid 20th Century Watercolour Landscape Painting

Interesting mid 20th Century watercolour depicting a picturesque European landscape, with a historic castle or fortified settlement perched dramatically upon a rocky promontory overlooking a winding river and distant countryside. A particularly decorative example of mid century landscape watercolour painting. The composition features a rustic timber building and an old fashioned two wheeled cart in the foreground, accompanied by agricultural implements and surrounding vegetation. The distant architecture and wooded landscape are beautifully captured beneath an expansive blue sky, using a pleasing palette of soft greens, blues and earthy tones. Executed in watercolour on board, the painting bears an apparent artist's signature to the lower right and is dated 1964. The signature appears to read Gordon Dawes. Presented behind glass in an attractive substantial moulded frame with gilt and bronze toned detailing. Condition: Some age related surface wear and marks to the painting.
