Vintage Dachshund Watercolour Portrait

A charming mid 20th Century miniature watercolour on card depicting a dachshund. Shown half length, its soulful eyes and soft, painterly modelling giving the portrait real character. The artist has used warm browns and subtle highlights against a muted ground, capturing the dog’s inquisitive expression with an economical yet confident hand. The work is signed H. A. Remy to the lower left. Adding to its appeal, the reverse of the card bears an intriguing watercolour and ink portrait sketch of a gentleman in profile, executed in a loose, caricatural style, offering a fascinating glimpse into the artist’s working practice and re-use of materials. The piece is presented in later wooden frame, showing heavy distressed condition with repair to all of its corners. The watercolour itself is in good condition showing minor imperfections. A delightful and slightly whimsical double sided work, equally appealing to lovers of canine portraiture and mid-century illustrative art.
