Murano Faceted Sommerso Glass Vase Attributed to Flavio Poli

A superb mid-century Italian Murano glass vase, attributed to the celebrated designer Flavio Poli, circa 1950s–1960s. It is of substantial heavy construction, the vase has been produced using the traditional Sommerso technique, with a rich smoky amethyst-brown inner body dramatically encased within warm amber/yellow and clear glass. The exterior has been expertly cut and polished into strong geometric facets, producing wonderful changes in colour and depth as the vase is viewed from different angles. The elongated, architectural form is particularly characteristic of the sophisticated modernist glass produced on Murano during the post-war period. Flavio Poli (1900–1984) became one of the leading figures in twentieth-century Murano glass and is particularly celebrated for his innovative use of layered Sommerso glass while associated with Seguso Vetri d'Arte.
