Oil painting was first adopted in the West during the 15th Century. Since the start oils quickly rose to become the most respected among all the different methods because the paint dries very slowly giving the artist plenty of time to create the look they desire. However, just because Oil Paintings dry slowly does mean they need to appear dull and lifeless and for centuries people have been creating amazing and engaging works that prove this. Whether you are into grand Old Masters, subtle impressionistic landscapes or bizarre abstractions, there are a wealth of antique and vintage Oil Paintings out there.
