Description
Mid-Century Murano Art Glass Vase – Red Bullicante, Attributed to Seguso (Italy, c.1960s–1970s). A striking example of mid-century Murano glass, this elegant hand-blown vase showcases the exceptional craftsmanship and artistry for which the Venetian island of Murano is renowned. Dating to the 1960s–1970s, the piece embodies the bold design and technical innovation that defined Italian studio glass during this period. The vase is formed in a tall, graceful silhouette, rising from a solid clear glass base into a vibrant ruby red body. Its surface is decorated throughout with the bullicante technique, featuring precisely controlled and evenly spaced air bubbles suspended within the glass. This demanding process requires layering molten glass in a way that traps air in a consistent pattern, a hallmark of skilled Murano artisans. The form gently tapers before opening into a sculptural, flared rim, with hand-pulled points that create a dynamic, organic profile. The upper edges transition into clear glass, revealing the fluidity of the material and the hand of the maker. The base retains a ground and polished pontil mark, confirming its hand-blown origin and careful finishing. Based on its form, colour, and technique, this vase can be confidently attributed to the Seguso workshop, most likely produced under the direction of Archimede Seguso. While unsigned—as is typical for many Murano export pieces of the era—it closely aligns with documented examples from this celebrated maker.
