Pair of Early 19th Century Pencil Portrait Miniatures

A refined and evocative pair of early 19th century pencil portrait miniatures, dating to circa 1830s, each sensitively rendered in profile and housed within their original ebonised frames. These intimate studies depict a gentleman and lady in contemporary Regency dress, executed with confident yet delicate pencil work. The gentleman is portrayed with characteristic high collar and pronounced sideburns, while the lady is shown with softly dressed curls and a ruffled neckline, capturing the elegance and restraint of the period. The simplicity of the medium allows for a directness of expression, lending both portraits a quiet, contemplative presence. Each drawing is mounted behind convex glass within a deeply moulded, turned ebonised wooden frame of pleasing form, the rich black finish providing a striking contrast to the warm, time toned paper.
