There is something beautiful about antique scent bottles. Far from being a new phenomenon people have been dabbing sweet smelling waters and oils on their bodies for over 3000 years. As a luxury item from the start, glass has always been one of the main materials used (but not the only) and their novelty or elegant forms help enhance the sweet liquids they contain. Today one can find many antique and vintage scent bottles in all manner of form and material, but most will date from the 19th or 20th Centuries.
While 19th Century examples are often novelty shapes or with cut and coloured glass, the scent bottle was also a travelling necessity for any well-respected lady. Therefore, extremely fine examples in enamels and precious metals such as gold and silver are also found. By the Art Deco period of the 20th Century the perfume bottle was a mark of style and prestige on any dressing table and enamelled tops and atomisers came into its own.
At LoveAntiques we have a great selection of antique and vintage scent bottles for all your needs.
