Item of The Week - Chinese Elm Low Table c.1880

The Christmas Season is one of the happiest of Seasons, and is best spent with family & friends, but it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year as you prepare for the big day, and if you happen to be hosting a gathering for loved ones, then stress levels tend to intensify! Is there enough food? Have I bought enough drinks? Do I have the space? There’s just so much to think about. Well if it is space you’re concerned about, why not let us assist you?

This Chinese Antique Elm Low Table, which dates from around 1880, will not only look great in your home but we think it would be very useful in providing extra seating for your Christmas guests.  With its upturned edges, this table acts as a perfect window seat.  All you need to do is add some soft cushioning to the top and voila, you have yourself a superb seat for your guests to perch upon.

Then when they are full to the brim with festive cheer (& turkey & mince pies), and you have sent them on their merry way, you still have a very practical piece of furniture that you can continue to admire for years to come; be it in the form of a coffee table, a TV stand or indeed a window seat.

This 19th Century table is made from solid elm and is vey sturdy in it’s construction, which is just as well given the aforementioned seating suggestion! It is stylish in its appearance and would blend in perfectly, whether situated in an Oriental themed décor or even a country style home. And with 3 drawers placed directly under the surface, you have storage options too.

A wonderful, and somewhat subtly decorative piece, this Chinese Low Table is being sold by Hingstons Antiques for £1,100.
