Item of The Week - Victorian Christopher Dresser Candlestick

We are fortunate enough to live in a world full of wonderful Antiques to grace our home with, from elegant French dressing tables and rare Art pieces, to grand Georgian Bookcases and decorative Victorian tables and chairs, but sometimes it’s the smaller things that catch our eye. For this weeks ‘Item of The Week’ we have chosen this delightful Victorian Christopher Dresser Candlestick.

Christopher Dresser was an eclectic designer, producing glassware, carpets, furniture and metal ware to name but a few things. A highly regarded and popular ceramic designer, Christopher was rather well respected in the Design world and you can see why when you examine this wonderful piece.

Crafted between 1880 - 1890, it is constructed from Copper and Brass and is wonderfully artistic in its design. The copper base resembles half of a beehive, whilst the upper candle holder section is presented in flower form with a mirrored beehive design. A simple brass column lovingly joining the two parts. And if that isn’t interesting and eye-catching enough, we are then treated to a superbly turned ebonised fruit wood handle, adjoined to the column, thus making it extremely easy to lift or move around. This is anything but your average candlestick.

With the contrasting materials this intriguing antique could be used within various types of décor and would be a welcome addition to any room within the home.

This Candlestick is being sold by Penrose Antiques Ltd for £175.
