Item of The Week - Antique Arts & Crafts Oak Bookcase

This week we are excited to bring you this Antique Arts & Crafts Oak Bookcase as our Item of The Week. Offering superb functionality whilst being an exceptionally attractive piece of furniture due to several design features, this Bookcase is a must have for your home.

This 19th Century Bookcase stands at an impressive 78 inches tall, so it is quite a sizeable piece of furniture. The open shelf at the top offers a large space, that you could fill with ornaments, a singular vase or books, although with 5 book shelves directly beneath, you may want to keep your books in pristine condition behind the decorative leaded stained glass double doors. And in addition to the internal storage space, there are 4 smaller shelves on each side of the bookcase, offering ample shelving space.

In addition to the carved out, detailed sections resembling foliage, what we loved the most about this bookcase was the contrast of the industrial looking copper heart decorations and hinges against the rich oak, along with the delicate heart cut out motif at the base of the frame. These features are very typical of an Arts & Crafts piece, which often had a romantic, medieval feel to them, with clean, straight lines.

And with oak still being one of the most popular choices of furniture in this day and age, and copper being used in many an interior, these features offer a modern twist on an old piece of furniture, thus in turn, this bookcase could work in various decors.

It is for sale from Newark Antiques and Interiors Ltd for £2,000
