Item of The Week - 19th Century Walnut Marquetry Oval Serpentine Shaped Table

There’s nothing like setting a cosy ambience in your home during the cold Autumn and Winter months and this is usually achieved with furnishings such as cushions and throws and a bit of mood lighting using up-lighters and lamps, but where you place a lamp is crucial. Without a doubt, lamps are best placed on lower level surfaces such as sideboards, and side tables where they can blend in with the décor and the soft glow can be projected softly around the room. This week ‘Item of The Week’ would make for the perfect spot to place your lamps.

This beautiful 19th Century Black Forest table is a wonderful example of Victorian furniture and boasts some incredible features. Constructed from Walnut this table sits on tripod legs that are ornately carved in the finest detail, detail which is replicated in the frieze around the table top and in the barley twist central supports.

The table top itself is laden with Marquetry panels inlaid with Boxwood and Satinwood and depicts delicate animal scenes. It is presented in the most attractive oval serpentine shape and is in fact a tilt top, so the stunning craftsmanship of this table can be appreciated in all its glory; this is also a great space saving feature!

Presented in excellent condition this superb table has a warm patina and retains its original tilt top catch that enables the table to be tilted and locked back in to place. Use it as a coffee table, an occasional table, a side table, or as we suggested as a lamp table, but essentially, the choice is yours!

This wonderful antique table is being sold by C J Antiques for £895
