Description

This attractive antique nodder group is in the oriental style, but is probably of continental origin. The figures are Caucasian, but with an oriental look. They have painted faces and outfits - their outfits are light green with gilt highlights. There are small numbers cast into their necks (where they nod) and the wrist holding the moving fan. One of the figures nods yes, the gentleman in the middle nods no and the other lady holds a fan in one hand which waves - so there are three moving parts in the group. All three moving parts have fixed flat metal pivot pins. We would estimate the group to date from the second half of the nineteenth century.

Please note that we have many other antique nodders available as we recently purchased a large collection. Please contact us for details.

Condition

Very good condition with some wear consistent with age. The girl with the moving head has a small chip to the end of one finger. This attractive antique nodder group is in the oriental style, but is probably of continental origin. Her head moves freely when the piece is picked up, but when it is placed on the surface it does not move (the counterweight inside must have dropped slightly so that it touches the surface). The weight on the middle nodder has been glued back on at some point, and there is some glue residue visible. There are some manufacturing flaws as might be expected and some rubbing and wear to the paintwork. The metalwork has some tarnishing. The figure group is overall quite dusty and a little grubby and would benefit from a careful clean.
