Description

A bone china tea cup and saucer from the factory of Samuel Alcock, made in Stoke on Trent around 1840. Of shaped and moulded form. Decorated with groups of summer flowers, hand-painted in bright enamel colours reserved within a dark red ground overlaid with gilt leaves and scrolls. The bases of both cup and saucer bear the hand-written pattern number, 8021, in red.


Measurements

The cup stands 2 1/4 inches high and measures 4 1/4 inches in diameter. The saucer measures 6 1/4 inches in diameter.

Declaration

Roger Stretch Antiques has clarified that the Samuel Alcock Tea Cup and Saucer, C.1840 (9819 / LA184302) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being c.1840.

Condition

Both pieces are in excellent, original, sound condition with only very minor wear to one or two areas of decoration and a small stain to the base of the cup handle.
