This is a most impressive 19th century Tabriz carpet with a stunning design, dating from around 1880. It has a beautiful design very typical of fine Tabriz carpets, the central medallion surrounded by a flower filled field of arching blossoms, and deep borders crammed with pretty stylised flowers. The carpets colour palette features many lovely shades including coral, indigo, ivory, a brighter mid blue and a yellow; all more mellow due to the age of the carpet, giving it a really nice antique look.
This is in good order for its age; the pile a little low in places, ends and selvedges complete. There is a small repaired area, (best seen in photo 6 just above the inner light blue medallion), but this does not detract from the beauty of this very fine antique carpet.
The carpet is quite a magnificent size, measuring 390 cms by 286 cms, and would add great warmth and character to a larger reception room.
