Description

This lovely set of antique sterling silver menu or place name holders were made by William Comyns and all are identically hallmarked for Birmingham 1912.

They are in very good condition with no repairs or damage. Standing on a half moon base the holders have a crescent shaped filigree silver surround with tortoiseshell inset. The silver piecework is very intricate and is itself surrounded by a beadwork rim. There is an additional half moon clip to the rear providing a secure holding for the menu/name. The holders are presented in their original box lined with cream silk and stamped with the retailer of Howard & Co. New York. The box closes firmly on a catch, is fine internally but showing signs of age.

This is a fine and unusual set of silver holders, made with a good gauge of silver from this highly collectable silversmith.
