Description

This is is a fine antique sterling silver wine funnel made by Hester Bateman and hallmarked in London 1789.

It is in very good condition and has all three parts including the inner ring to hold a muslin cloth for finer decanting. The parts fit together perfectly. There is a bead decoration to the rim and lightly engraved scrolled initials to the main body. Hallmarks are partially rubbed but perfectly legible.

Pieces by this Geogian lady silversmith are highly collectable and this is a good example (NB any shadows shown in photographs are merely reflections).
