Description

William Peaston was a Georgian silversmith who specialised in the making of salvers. On offer is a fine and quite large example of his work and this salver was hallmarked in London 1751.

It is in very good condition and made with a heavy gauge of silver. It sits firmly on 3 claw feet and has a wide and very attractive shell and scroll border. There is further decoration to the main body and this includes a cartouche engraved with a mythical beast rising from a crown and the cartouche has an outer ring of scroll decorations. Hallmarks are clearly struck -overall a fine example of this specialists work.
