Description

Lovely hallmarked solid silver 1 pint tankard or christening mug. Full London hallmark with the date letter for 1943 and the makers mark for Frank Finley Clarkson and stamped to the base Clarkson Northallerton. Possibly belongs to the Ropner family, their crest is engraved to the front of the tankard, Sir John Ropner passed away in 2016. The family home was Thurs Perrow in the County of York. The silver weight is 289 grams

Apologies for any reflections in the pictures, these are not marks in the silver. Will be delivered in a tissue lined gift box.

Measurements

Stands 5 1/8 inches 13 cm tall, 2 7/8 inches 7.5 cm in diameter and 4 1/2 inches 11.5 cm handle to rim. The silver weight is 289 grams

Declaration

Shires Antiques has clarified that the 1 pint Hallmarked solid silver tankard Christening mug (A470 / LA76284) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being 1943.

Condition

Excellent condition, no damage or repairs. Small dent to the edge of the foot as shown in the pictures, for information you can also see on the inside of the tankard marks where the handle has been attached to the body. I believe this was how it was manufactured and not a later repair as it's very clean and a straight line rather than an extended repair.
